“… less is more …”

Robert Browning

Sculptra® Aesthetic (poly-L-lactic acid) injections have been used for almost 20 years to improve aging appearances, including skin folds, indented chin surfaces, hollowed cheeks, and sunken eyes.

Sculptra® Aesthetic was first introduced to the United States for treating facial wasting (e.g., immunocompromised patients undergoing treatment). However, in recent years, the FDA has approved Sculptra® Aesthetic for the treatment of deep nasolabial smile folds and other facial wrinkles. The Sculptra® Aesthetic filler provides up to 80% improvement in the treated areas and can last up to 2 years or longer.

Am I a Candidate for Sculptra® Aesthetic?

Collagen stimulants are usually used for patients between the ages of 35 and 65 to restore a more youthful-looking appearance. Sculptra® Aesthetic does not require allergic pre-testing.

How Are Collagen Stimulant Injections Performed?

Sculptra® Aesthetic injections are performed in Dr. Minoli’s office as an outpatient treatment. They typically involve a local anesthetic and topical application of ice to minimize discomfort from the needle injections.

A treatment can last 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the extent of treatment, and there is minimal discomfort.

Touch-up injections may be required at 6 to 8-week intervals until optimal results are achieved.

Is There Downtime After Collagen Stimulant Injections?

There is no downtime required after Sculptra® Aesthetic injections. Patients can immediately resume normal activities and apply makeup; however, they are advised to stay out of the sun in the early stages.

When Will I See My Collagen Stimulant Results, and How Long Will They Last?

Sculptra® Aesthetic results gradually become evident over several weeks and have been reported to last for over 2 years.

Treatments have to be repeated in future years to maintain the benefits.

Collagen Stimulant FAQ

Are there any risks associated with collagen stimulants like Sculptra® Aesthetic?

There are very few side effects associated with Sculptra® Aesthetic. Bruising and swelling may occur, and small bumps may develop that are visible or palpable; however, these can typically be treated with a massage regimen.

If a patient experiences unmanageable pain or symptoms, they should report those symptoms to Dr. Minoli immediately. These instances are very rare.

What is synthetic poly-L-lactic acid?

Sculptra® Aesthetic is a synthetic poly-L-lactic acid injectable material that works to gradually increase skin thickness. The material has been commonly used in dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants. A natural form of poly-L-lactic acid is even produced by our muscles during exercise.

The material is biocompatible and can be dissolved by the body.
